Who Invented Paper?

The Papyrus Era

The ancient Egyptians, innovative as they were, discovered that the inner pith of the papyrus plant could be extracted, sliced into thin strips, and overlapped to create a writing surface.
This early form of paper-making using papyrus, known as “papyrology,” became widespread in ancient Egypt around 3000 BCE. Papyrus sheets were not only used for writing, but they were also employed for artwork, religious texts, and official documents. The durability and flexibility of papyrus made it an ideal medium for various purposes, but its production process was labor-intensive and limited to regions where the papyrus plant thrived.
